Ingredients

40 sheets filo pastry

500g walnuts

285g unsalted butter

1tsp cinnamon powder

Syrup

1 cup white sugar

2 tbsp lemon juice

3/4 cup water

1/2 cup honey


EQUIPMENT NEEDED:

Oven

Saucepan

Baking tray

Measuring tools 

Preparation

1. Take out Filo Pastry to thaw

2. Cut Pastry to the size of the baking pan

3. Keep Pastry damp with tea towel at all times

4. Crush Nuts and cinnamon into crumbs

5. Preheat oven to 160C

6. Brush base of baking pan with butter and add one layer of pastry

7. Repeat this process for 10 sheets of pastry

8. Add ¾ cup of walnuts and repeat with 3 more sheets of pastry

9. Add more walnuts

10. Add 10 more sheets brushing each one with butter including top layer

11. Cut into strips and then squares

12. Bake for 1 hour (in this time make syrup)

13. Add syrup ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat and bring to simmer

14. Lower heat and simmer for 3 mins,remove from heat and cool

15. Remove pastry from oven and pour over syrup

16. Let pastry soak and enjoy!
