Urban Harvest (Food Swaps)

Grow It, Share It, Eat It!

You’d be surprised just how much food is grown right here in the city. This means food that is fresh, seasonal, often organic, and comes with low/zero food miles. If your garden produces fruit and vegetables in abundance then this is the chance to share the spoils and get to know your neighbours while you’re at it.

Food Swaps are about meeting other food growers, sharing information, and swapping your surplus produce for food you don’t have.

Peta helps organise Fitzroy’s Urban Harvest monthly food swap. All are welcome to bring along any excess produce and swap it for something else on the table, including home-grown fruit, veg, seeds, seedlings, recipes and gardening tips. Don’t worry if you haven’t got a lot to swap –  folks bring along recipes, jars for jams, flowers and more.

The swaps run from 10.30am to 12pm on the first Saturday of each month, at Smith’s Reserve next to the Fitzroy Pool (just off Alexander Parade). Contact Peta for more information or to join the monthly mailing list:  You can also find Fitzroy Urban Harvest on Facebook Fitzroy Urban Harvest Facebook .
